What Is Sports Medicine?

Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that specializes in keeping people active and healthy. It includes treating injuries, preventing and treating illness, and performing annual physical examinations.

What Are Some Of The Things You Can Do At OUCH?

We can perform digital x-rays, splinting, casting and bracing. We do EKG's, treadmill stress, pulmonary (lung) function tests, as well as urine and strep tests. We also perform minor/office surgeries and female exams (pap smears).

Do You Do Regular Family Medicine/Primary Care? Can I Use You As My Regular Doctor?

Yes, our doctors are Board Certified in either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. Most of us have the subspecialty in Primary Care Sports Medicine. We can take care of injuries, like an urgent care, but you can also use us as your family’s doctor.

Can We Be Seen On The Same Day We Call?

Yes, we welcome "same day” patients because the sooner we start to treat an injury or illness, the sooner it will get better. As we say, “If you say “OUCH”, you need us!”

Do You Perform Sports Physicals?

Yes, we perform sports (pre-participation) exams on the same day. You can obtain the latest sports physical forms off our web site and fill it out before your arrival. Call to make an appointment to be seen.

Do You Do X-Rays?

Yes, we have state of the art digital x-ray (radiograph) facility and we can either print out or give you a CD of your x-rays. We will do the preliminary interpretation of the x-rays and have a board certified radiology specialist also review the films.

Do You Perform Women’s Health Exams?

Yes, we have Pam Simmons, MD who is board certified in Family Medicine with additional training in women’s health available.

My Husband Needs A Physical Exam, Do You Do Annual Exams?

Yes, we are excellent for men’s health, especially for those men who have not seen a doctor for many years. Men are reluctant to see doctors but will feel very comfortable at OUCH Sports Medicine Center. Our doctors can perform the full physical exam, including EKG’s, chest x-rays, blood testing results, and even treadmill exercise tests. Our goal is to prevent heart disease, cancer and strokes. Men generally die 8-10 years before women and a routine annual physical is a great start to improving their health.

Are You Orthopedic Surgeons?

No, we are not surgeons. We are highly trained in most musculoskeletal injuries (ie. fractures, sprains, strains, pain, etc.) and work very closely with many of the top orthopedic surgeons in the area and southern California in general. Most of us have spent over 10 years assisting on orthopedic surgery cases in the operating rooms. If your injury requires a surgery, we can assist you in getting with one of these top surgeons. However, we think the “best surgery is no surgery unless you absolutely need it”. We will be able to offer you the ultimate in non surgical approaches to the treatment of your injury or pain.

Our sports doctors are the volunteer team physicians for many of the high schools in Murrieta and Temecula.
